New FortisBC Gas Line Now Installed in Burnaby, Vancouver and Coquitlam

The ongoing FortisBC gas line upgrade project that had been underway in Burnaby over the past year is now complete, with the new line successfully brought into operation last weekend. This 30-inch line is now helping supply more than 210,000 homes and businesses throughout the Lower Mainland with the natural gas they count on every day.

“We want to thank the entire community for its patience as we completed our gas line upgrades safely and as quickly as possible,” said Ian Miki, project director, FortisBC Gas Line Upgrades.

“This is one of the largest urban infrastructure projects we’ve ever completed and we couldn’t have done it without your patience and understanding. It has been a privilege to work with the communities of Vancouver, Burnaby and Coquitlam during construction over these past two years.”

A total of 20 km of new gas line was built for the FortisBC Gas Line Upgrades project, including 4 km in Vancouver, 10.5 km in Burnaby and 5.5 km in Coquitlam.

The Burnaby Board of Trade worked closely with FortisBC on ensuring local businesses knew of any traffic changes related to the construction, and were able to access information on the project’s timeline and economic impacts.
