BBOT Applauds and Encourages Gradual Re-Opening of K-12 School System

COVID-19 Updates & Resources

The provincial government has announced plans for a phased, part-time return to public schools starting June 1. The Burnaby Board of Trade applauds this announcement as not only good for students and children, but good for the economy as employees having to be at home to provide childcare/education limits their availability and productivity for work.   Read more on this announcement here.

Students will have the option to attend their regular schools as of June 1st on a part time basis.

  • Kindergarten through Grade 5 can attend 2-3 days per week (target of 50% classroom capacity)
  • Grades 6 through 12 can attend 1 days per week (target of 20% classroom capacity)
  • Online learning will still be available for all students
  • A full re-opening of schools is planned for September

To do this re-opening safely, schools will be implementing practices such as staggered breaks, limits on group work, enhanced cleaning, and mandatory health self-assessments for staff and students.
