Federal Throne Speech Lays Out Gov’t Priorities

On December 4, 2015, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, delivered the Speech from the Throne to open the 42nd session of Parliament and outline the new federal government’s agenda.

Amongst the notable highlights of the speech was a proposed new Canada Child Benefit, a tax cut for the “middle class,” consultations on electoral reform, support for clean tech and carbon reduction strategies, and reforms to the Canada Pension Plan and Employment Insurance system.
