June 25, 2020 — The City of Burnaby has expanded its “Active Sidewalks, Open Businesses” program is to allow businesses to temporarily use their outdoor space such as on-site parking spaces for retail areas or for patios for customers. This space provides more room for patrons to maintain physical distancing, while reducing permanent business losses in the community.

This new initiative from the City builds upon earlier measures that give qualifying businesses the ability to expand their activities into adjacent City-owned space. This program will remain effective until Oct. 31, 2020.

The Burnaby Board of Trade strongly supports this effort by the City of Burnaby, and applauds Mayor, Council and City Staff for moving quickly to develop this program, and for ensuring applications are processed quickly and without an application fee.
