Burnaby Board of Trade Pleased with Aluminum Tariff Resolution

The Burnaby Board of Trade is pleased with the announcement today that American tariffs on aluminum trade between Canada and the United States will be removed and therefore no retaliatory measures introduced by the Canadian government.  This dispute risked higher costs and supply shortages for everything from raw aluminum inputs to beverage cans, baseball bats and children’s playground equipment.

The Burnaby Board of Trade has been engaging directly with the Department of Finance and our local Members of Parliament on this issue, urging a negotiated resolution to this trade dispute and warning of potential negative impacts on Burnaby manufacturers and retailers who used Amercian products in their supply chains.  Read more on our position here.

Today, with the announcement by the American government trade tariffs would be removed, the Canadian government announced no retaliatory tariff measures would be implemented.
