BBOT helps attract increased bus service to Big Bend

Burnaby City Council has approved a plan to increase bus service to the Big Bend industrial area, following years of petitioning from local businesses in the area. The initiative began to gain momentum last January when the Burnaby Board of Trade and Alpha Technologies co-hosted a Transit Solutions Forum, where businesses were invited to express their concerns and ideas with TransLink representatives in attendance.

The increased service means changes to TransLink’s route no. 116 to include North Fraser Way east of Byrne Road, to Marine Way. The changes will add 14 new stops to the route in areas where there will be higher demand for service. Importantly, the bus will now stop with walking distance of most business in the Big Bend area.

The Burnaby Board of Trade advocates on a range of targeted issues on behalf of businesses in Burnaby and beyond. For a list of recent initiatives, visit http://bbot.ca/advocacy.
