BBOT Fights For Family Day Alignment at BC Chamber AGM

As a result of unprecedented member response, the Burnaby Board of Trade took forward a policy resolution this weekend to the BC Chamber of Commerce AGM calling for the alignment of BC’s Family Day with the February holidays in the rest of Canada and the United States. Click here to read the policy in full.

The Burnaby Board of Trade, in partnership with the Surrey Board of Trade who received similar member response, proposed moving Family Day to the 3rd Monday in February. The motive behind this proposal was to alleviate a misalignment where BC companies would be closed on one week while other businesses are open, and then sitting idle the next week while neighbouring jurisdictions are on holiday.

Paul Holden, President and CEO of the Burnaby Board of Trade, presented our proposal and voiced the clear concerns of our membership to the over 200 delegates at AGM.  While the policy did not ultimately receive the 2/3 majority required to be adopted, the Burnaby Board of Trade will continue to advocate for this issue going forward.
