Port Authority accepts prestigious award for marine environment initiatives

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has been awarded the 2017 North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) award for its innovative marine environment protection initiatives in and around the Port of Vancouver. The annual awards recognize companies, associations, government agencies, academic institutions and individuals whose efforts support NAMEPA’s mission to “Save Our Seas.”

The award recognizes the port authority’s Enhancing Cetacean Habitat and Observation (ECHO) Program, which aims at better understanding and managing the impact of shipping activities on at-risk whales throughout the southern coast of British Columbia. You may have noticed the TV, radio and social media advertisements about the program.

While the focus of the award is on the port authority’s leadership on the ECHO program, they were also recognized for their Habitat Enhancement Program and the Fraser River Improvement Initiative.
