Grand Villa Casino and Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Announces Partnership with Burnaby Hospital Foundation

April 23, 2019 – Burnaby, BC – Today, Grand Villa Casino, through Gateway Casinos & Entertainment’s corporate giving program, GatewayGIVES, announced their multi-year partnership with Burnaby Hospital Foundation towards the new Mental Health and Substance Use Zone (MHSU) at Burnaby Hospital.

“Burnaby Hospital is a vital part of our community. It serves the ill and injured throughout Burnaby and the surrounding area, and we are thrilled to build on our existing relationship to ensure our community remains healthy and vibrant,” said Lisa Mak, General Manager of Grand Villa Casino in Burnaby.

The GatewayGIVES 3-year commitment totaling $50,000 will support patients with complex needs, including mental health and substance use issues. The MHSU will create a safer, calmer environment with specialized equipment and a multidisciplinary approach, and a treatment setting that is more therapeutic than a traditional emergency room.

“Burnaby Hospital Foundation has enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with Gateway Casinos & Entertainment, and we are extremely appreciative of their commitment to once again step forward in support of our community here in Burnaby, East Vancouver and beyond,” said Foundation CEO, Kristy James. “Burnaby Hospital has one of the busiest emergency departments in B.C., and the addition of the MHSU is a much needed purpose-built environment to support effective care.”

GatewayGIVES is the branded corporate giving and community engagement program for Gateway Casinos and Entertainment, which operates 27 gaming properties in British Columbia, Alberta (Edmonton) and Ontario. With approximately 8,648 employees, Gateway is one of the largest and most diversified gaming and entertainment companies in Canada.

“Through this program we are able to give back and support the communities where we operate. We are very proud of the relationship we have with the Burnaby Hospital Foundation and we’re extremely excited to be making this long-term commitment to a project that will help so many,” said Tony Santo, CEO of Gateway Casinos & Entertainment.

As the pre-phase to Burnaby Hospital’s redevelopment, the MHSU will improve the quality of care and hospital experience for tens of thousands of patients each year.
