Government Program Spotlight: Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP)

The BCIP helps Canadian companies of all sizes move their state-of-the-art goods and services from the laboratory to the marketplace.

Through the BCIP, the Government of Canada buys pre-qualified goods and services.
The government moves these late-stage research and development innovations to federal departments for testing. After testing, the BCIP provides feedback to suppliers on the performance of their products or services.

The BCIP helps provide businesses with a first reference sales and helps bridge the gap between product development and commercialization.

Businesses must be Canadian-owned or partnered with a Canadian partner, and must own the innovations intellectual property rights.

Utilizing government purchasing and supply chains to support local businesses and innovations is something the Burnaby Board of Trade has advocated for in the past.
