FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 24, 2017

Burnaby, BC The Burnaby Board of Trade is pleased to be recognized by the City of Burnaby for Environmental Excellence in the category of Business Stewardship for its multi-award winning program, A Pledge for a Sustainable Community.

The Pledge for a Sustainable Community, is an online resource which helps business take first and next steps to becoming environmentally sustainable. To date over 150 businesses have taken the Pledge with over 27 Success stories detailing unique successes within the community.

To expand the reach of the pledge program the BBOT has partnered with a local financial institution to support employee engagement and outreach. A Vancity Community Grant provided funding for Pledge members to participate in a greenhouse gas reduction certification program resulting in 9 businesses learning to measure, decrease and manage their GHG emissions.

The Burnaby Board of Trade President and CEO says, “We are delighted to be recognized by the City of Burnaby for this award. The Pledge is one of our signature programs and demonstrates our commitment to helping business large and small become more sustainable, something that is vital to building strong, resilient communities.”

The BBOT Pledge for a Sustainable Community was named finalist at the World Chamber Competition in the category of Corporate Social Responsibility and in 2017 it received the Outstanding Core Competency Award from the Western Association of Chamber Executives (WACE). On 2013 the Burnaby Board of Trade was awarded a Star from the City of Burnaby for Business Stewardship.
