Building Welcoming and Inclusive Workplace and Communities

Breaking Down the Barriers was a joint collaboration between the Burnaby Board of Trade and the Burnaby Intercultural planning Table that connected more than 250 immigrants with Canadian companies over a period of 18 months. The project was designed to create meaningful dialogue between immigrants and employers, allowing attendees to exchange experiences
Composed of 2 employer forums and 6 workplace tours the program raised awareness in the business community regarding the importance of newcomer integration into society, particularly through employment opportunities.

Breaking Down the Barriers conducted 6 industry specific tours that included the healthcare industry, engineering, finance, the IT and technology sector, green businesses, and accounting.
