Behind the Not-for-Profit Spotlight: Strive Living Society

Why Burnaby?
Strive Living Society relocated its head office to Burnaby in November 2016 and we are proud to be a part of this vibrant and highly diverse community. Burnaby is growing rapidly and there is a high population of seniors. In 2016, 36,800 seniors over the age of 65 and 5,135 seniors over the age of 85 called Burnaby home. Our program, Community Home Care, is here to address the growing demand for in-home care services.
The community has been so welcoming towards our organization. We really enjoyed participating in Hats Off Day, the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Big Bike Fundraiser, various Burnaby Board of Trade events, and other local expos.

What’s unique about your services?
Community Home Care provides an array of in-home support services, including nursing services, to accommodate the increasing care needs of individuals of diverse abilities, particularly seniors. The goal is to provide an environment that enables individuals to live independently at home for as long as possible.
Service can be set up daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly or whatever is preferred. Because we are a registered charity, all revenue from this program helps assist children, youth, adults, and seniors in our other programs. Our team includes qualified staff, licensed nurses and care aides, who are registered in professional regulatory bodies. Staff are multilingual and are skilled in a variety of areas such as dementia care, palliative care, acquired brain injuries, complex care, and mental health.
Our services include, but are not limited to, companionship, personal care support (e.g. bathing, dressing, grooming, etc.), transportation to and from appointments/activities, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, and nursing support (e.g. wound care, foot care, medication management, etc.).

What are your 2018 goals?
Our primary goal is to help as many individuals as possible in 2018! We will also continue to spread the word about all that Strive has to offer and form exciting partnerships in the local community. Our various programs and services have the potential to help many individuals who reside in Burnaby.
