BCIT Inspires the Next Generation of Women-Identifying Engineers

BCIT Women in Engineering

According to Engineers Canada, currently only 20% of newly licensed engineers in Canada self-identify as women. As part of BCIT’s mission in building a diverse and inclusive future, the Institute is proud to launch its annual Women in Engineering (WiE) campaign in celebration of National Engineering Month in March and Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) on February 14.

A collaboration with the BCIT School of Construction and the Environment, School of Energy, School of Transportation, and Marketing and Communications, the campaign is designed to encourage women-identifying students to join the engineering field and enrol at BCIT.

Entitled “Engineer an Inclusive Future,” the campaign highlights BCIT alumni and students as they share their inspirational journey, and their passion and vision in pursuing a rewarding career. The campaign also showcases the difference our grads and students are making in the world through BCIT’s hands-on learning, industry connections, and mentorship.

The integrated campaign features:

  • Promotion of the BCIT Engineering+ Panel Event on March 2, 2022, launching a series of engineering program information sessions.
  • New campaign video featuring three of our graduates and Dr. Andrea Frisque, PEng, Dean, School of Energy.
  • A BCIT News series featuring engineering students, alumni, faculty and leaders. Stay tuned for the launch of our BCIT News series highlighting engineering alumni, students, and faculty on February 28, 2022.

“Join us and start your career in engineering. This is where you can contribute toward solutions for the big questions we are currently facing – understanding the climate and how it changes, building new ways of providing energy at scale, creating healthy indoor spaces that can cope with a multitude of challenges, such as contagious diseases, forest fires, heat and cold waves, and so much more,” said Dr. Andrea Frisque, PEng, Dean, BCIT School of Energy.
