BC Votes to Keep Current Electoral System as Elections BC Releases Result of Referendum

Today, Elections BC released the results of the electoral reform referendum which was conducted in BC between October 22 and December 7 revealing that 61% of voters chose to remain with the current first-past-the-post voting system. In Burnaby, voters chose first-past-the-post by a margin of 60% to 40% in favour of proportional representation.

Throughout the referendum period, the Burnaby Board of Trade  provided information and resources for our members to learn more about the electoral systems being considered, culminating in our Electoral Reform Referendum Report which was developed by a task force of BBOT members and outlined the compelling arguments on both side of the debate.
