Representing Business with Government — BBOT Meets with Provincial Finance and Jobs Ministers

BBOT President & CEO Paul Holden Speaking with Minister Ravi Kahlon

In two digital meetings last week, the Burnaby Board of Trade and our members met with provincial Minister of Finance Selina Robinson and Minister of Jobs, Economic Recovery, and Innovation Ravi Kahlon to discuss the needs of local business and what priorities are on the radar of the provincial government.

In a meeting with the BBOT’s Board of Directors, Finance Minister Robinson outlined the work underway on the province’s first COVID budget, and the BBOT stressed the importance of policies and programs that will support a robust economic recovery.  Among the items discussed, the BBOT called for the renewal of 3 COVID tax changes from 2020, and raised the importance of childcare and education, and the need for an aggressive vaccine roll-out.

And in a free-wheeling discussion with BBOT members, Minister Kahlon answered questions and outlined the government’s perspectives on a host of topics, including tax policy, innovation investments, childcare, transportation, and international trade.

As the champion of Burnaby business interests, the Burnaby Board of Trade regularly meets with government to ensure they hear the needs and concerns of our members.  For questions, comments, or ideas related to our government advocacy work, contact Cory Redekop at cory@bbot.ca
