New Paid Sick Leave Consultations with Provincial Government

September 28 — Today, the Burnaby Board of Trade’s President & CEO, and our Director of Policy, met with the Minister and Deputy Minister of Labour to raise our concerns, ideas, and recommendations on the government’s plan to impose a mandatory sick leave policy on employers.

The provincial government will be mandating employers offer some level of paid sick leave starting January 1, 2022.   Consultations with employers is currently underway to help shape what that requirement will be, and the Burnaby Board of Trade is ensuring Burnaby employers have their voices and ideas heard.

The government has released three models it is considering — 3 days, 5 days, and 10 days of paid sick leave for employees.
