FortisBC Gas Line Upgrades

Important gas line upgrades by FortisBC are restarting this month.  As part of this upgrade, construction will have lane closures and traffic restrictions.

Lougheed Highway work

Our gas line upgrades continue to make progress in Burnaby. This is the work that’s expected to begin next week:

  • New work will start at the intersection of Lougheed Highway and Springer Avenue on Tuesday, August 6. One eastbound and one westbound lane will be open on Lougheed Highway; however, Springer Avenue will be closed to north-south traffic between Lougheed Highway and Broadway. This work is to connect our new gas line to our existing system, and is expected to be completed by mid-September.
  • The Lougheed Highway and Bainbridge Avenue intersection will open on Wednesday, August 7. As work in the area moves north, Bainbridge Avenue will now be closed between Queensbridge Drive and Broadway. Traffic on Broadway will be unaffected. Businesses in the area are open, with Bainbridge Avenue accessible via the Lougheed Highway intersection. This work is expected to be completed by late August.

The Burnaby Board of Trade has been communicating information about these closures to members in the areas affected throughout the project’s construction, including at a joint BBOT-Fortis event in 2018. We will continue to share updates with the business community to help you understand the project, and plan around any inconveniences. If you have any questions or concerns about this project, feel free to contact the Burnaby Board of Trade at cory@bbot.ca or contact Fortis at their TalkingEnergy.ca site, read the announcement on 2019 construction.
