Burnaby Community Services, Burnaby Meals on Wheels, and Burnaby Seniors Outreach Services Society Appoint New Executive Director

After a comprehensive executive-search process, the Boards of Burnaby Community Services (BCS), Burnaby Meals on Wheels (BMW) and Burnaby Seniors Outreach Services Society (BSOSS) are pleased to announce that Ms. Alexandra Munroe has been appointed their new Executive Director

Ms. Munroe has had a successful and diverse career as a strategic and operational leader in various roles. Her experience includes Vice President of Administration and Human Resources in the for-profit tech industry, and she has held leadership roles within the seniors health care sector. Her extensive experience in management and HR is key to the BCS, BMW and BSOSS societies. Her outstanding communication skills and commitment to fundraising will ensure a sustainable future for our societies as they serve the Burnaby community.

“Alex brings a broad range of professional and personal skills that will be of great benefit to our service organizations,” said Mr. Larry Ho, Chair of the Board of Burnaby Community Services, and a member of the search committee. “The search committee represented all three of our charitable societies and was enthusiastic and unanimous in its recommendation.”

“I am thrilled to serve as Executive Director to lead these non-profit organizations that contribute so much to the Burnaby community in which I live,” said Ms. Munroe. “There are exciting times ahead as we move into this new decade and strengthen the impact of the services we provide to the community.”

Burnaby Community Services
Founded in 1971, Burnaby Community Services provides a voice, resources and opportunities to people who need support. We believe that change happens when people are empowered to improve their lives. The society offers a range of programs and publications to support families with low-income, seniors experiencing isolation, and those in need of advocacy services, legal information and assistance.

Burnaby Meals on Wheels
Since 1968, Burnaby Meals on Wheels has been promoting health and independence by providing nutritious, local and affordable food to people who (for physical, mental health, social or economic reasons) are unable to meet their dietary needs. The recently launched ‘Let’s Do Lunch’ program pairs trained volunteers with isolated seniors who appreciate having a lunch companion.

Burnaby Seniors Outreach Services Society
Since 1987, Burnaby Seniors Outreach has been providing emotional support and encouragement to older citizens of Burnaby through peer counselling and related activities, assisting them to enhance their quality of life, to develop problem management strategies and to maintain the greatest level of independence and dignity possible. In 2019, the society started Burnaby’s very first dementia-friendly café at the Brentwood Community Resource Centre.
