Burnaby Board of Trade Appears Before House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance To Talk Budget 2018

Burnaby Board of Trade (BBOT) President & CEO Paul Holden appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance on Wednesday, October 4th as part of an invite-only panel to discuss priorities for the upcoming federal budget.

Building off our submission to the Committee this summer, the BBOT emphasized what our members have told us they want government to focus on, including:

  • Continuing to invest in transportation infrastructure
  • Helping ensure businesses have access to the workers they need
  • Addressing the rapid rise in the cost of housing and real estate
  • Incentivizing businesses to invest in new equipment, technology, machinery and software

The BBOT was one of five organizations invited to present to the panel which was visiting the Lower Mainland from Ottawa as part of formal Budget 2018 consultations.

The BBOT, the city’s most active business networking, advocacy and economic development organization, works to ensure the priorities and concerns of our members are heard by governments and agencies at all levels.  For updates on our recent policy and advocacy activities, visit www.bbot.ca/advocacy
