Burnaby Board of Trade awarded Environmental Star for Pledge program

Burnaby, BC – The City of Burnaby has awarded the Burnaby Board of Trade an Environmental Star in the category of Business Stewardship for the development and implementation of the Pledge for a Sustainable Community program.

“It’s a great honour to receive this recognition and all of us at the BBOT are extremely proud to be in the company of the incredible individuals and organizations who have also been recognized this year and in past years,” commented Burnaby Board of Trade President and CEO Paul Holden.

“The Pledge is still very much in its infancy, but the early success we’ve enjoyed in engaging with local businesses has been truly remarkable. I can’t wait to see this program grow over the coming years.”

The Pledge for a Sustainable Community is a comprehensive online resource with the goal of helping businesses large and small reduce their carbon footprint while at the same time promoting their company. Program participants have access to valuable resources, tips and case studies to help them create a more sustainable workplace, and are given the opportunity to share their successes, serve as role models, and pledge to take on new challenges.

The City of Burnaby presents Environment Awards annually to recognize and celebrate organizations and individuals who contribute their time and effort toward the protection and enhancement of a sustainable environment. Nominations for the Awards are recommended by the Citizen Representatives of the Environment Committee with City Council approval.
