Behind the Business Spotlight with Jason Wong, Josh McWilliams and Ryan Mackay of YVR Prep

Tell us about who you are and what your business is all about?

We are Burnaby’s first commissary kitchen (and Canada’s largest) offering affordable, Fraser Health-Approved kitchen rental facilities for all small food entrepreneurs, including food trucks, farmer’s market vendors. online sellers and everyone in between!

What is the most unique thing about your product and service?

Not only do we provide much needed commercial kitchen space for local food producers but our space also doubles as a community food hub, where processors, farmers, and other key stakeholders can gather to learn, collaborate and share resources in order to strengthen our local food system.

How did your organization get started?

YVR Prep was founded by partners Ryan, Josh and Jason.

Josh and Ryan are Executive Chefs by trade and have discussed at length to someday produce their own goods for sale, yet like many other aspiring entrepreneurs with an awesome food idea, they found it extremely challenging to find affordable and accessible commercial kitchen space in Metro Vancouver. Jason runs a successful coworking space for startups and non-profit organizations in Surrey, so his experience in building a shared economy business was a natural fit.
